Hungry Star Wars fans in Boston got to chow down on a cake fit for an emperor on the weekend – Emperor Palpatine, that is.

Husband and wife bakers Tiler and Amanda Oakleaf, and a team of 10, spent two weeks preparing a 140kg cake made in the shape of a stormtrooper for the Arisia Sci-Fi Convention.

"We have always dreamed of doing something like this and in the end we made it because we could really," Mr Oakleaf told UK paper The Sun.

"It took two weeks to make the cake with the whole team involved, but we wanted to make sure that there were people to eat it in the end because we didn't want to waste food.

"On Friday we took it to a sci-fi convention and it ended up feeding 600 people and there were still others lining up for a slice even when we had finished."

The stormtrooper's skeleton was made of iron, and the legs, Rice Krispies.

The pair, who run a business Oakleaf Cakes, say they've already received orders for more stormtrooper cakes – clones, if you like.

In the Star Wars films, the initial stormtroopers were cloned from bounty hunter Jango Fett, portrayed by Kiwi actor Temuera Morrison.
