Orcon is entering the mobile telecommunications market, saying it is extending its broadband philosophy by doing away with mobile fixed term contracts.

The company today said it was introducing a range of four simple mobile plans at rates from 39c per minute and a basic text rate of 20c.

Orcon will be providing its mobile service on the Vodafone network.

It is launching with three Nokia devices and an HTC device, and said more would be announced during the year.

Customers could use existing mobile numbers or get a new 020 Orcon number.

"Right now all other players in the on-account mobile market lock-in their customers to monthly or longer contracts - Orcon's having none of that. We're extending our broadband philosophy by doing away with mobile fixed term contracts altogether," Orcon chief executive Scott Bartlett said.
