Police say they are speaking to a 49-year-old man about the death (file pic)

A 41-year-old woman is dead after what police believe was a domestic disturbance in south Otago.

Police were called to the home in Balclutha after reports of an incident today.

When they arrived they found the body of the woman in the house.

Police say they are speaking to a 49-year-old man about the death.

Cordons have been set up around the home while police investigate.
