Caught in an avalanche on a Queenstown range, Guy Pope-Mayell initially thought he could outrun it.

But then, he says, the powder snow beneath him turned to liquid and within seconds he was engulfed.

His last thoughts were of family and friends and buried alive, Guy ran out of air and very nearly ran out of time.
