He has already pledged more than $1 million towards the growth and development of hockey in New Zealand, but today businessman and philanthropist Owen Glenn went quite a bit further.
He is bankrolling the 2011 Men’s Hockey Champions trophy tournament.
It was supposed to be held in Delhi in December, but India was deemed too unsafe by the International Hockey Federation. Last week, they withdrew the country’s hosting rights.
So Auckland is the new host of seven of the world’s best hockey teams, plus New Zealand, playing here in a very major sporting follow-up to the Rugby World Cup.
