Temperatures in Christchurch have dropped to around 6 degrees, but some school children will be better equipped to face the cold thanks in part to our cousins across the ditch.

Freeville Primary School in New Brighton lost two classroom blocks since the earthquakes began last September, and their roll has also declined by around 50.

The school’s 292 pupils were gifted Macpac jackets this morning thanks to fundraising efforts here and overseas.

The jackets cost $15,000. The money was raised from auctions held at Bondi Beach in Sydney.
