Karen Walker’s label is officially grown up, with the designer showing her 21st international season at New York Fashion Week.
Called ‘Fantastique Magnifique’, the ready-to-wear Spring/Summer 2013 collection features planet and moon rock-like prints and polka dots.
In true Karen Walker fashion, the colours are bright. Blues, oranges, pinks and golds featured – the latter continuing the metallic trend popular among the winter collections at last week’s New Zealand Fashion Week.
The cuts are simple and varied. High-waisted pants are loose-fitted and gathered at the waist, with some styles finishing above the ankle.
Straight-legged suit pants in vivid orange are also cropped above the ankle.
Tops have elbow grazing or three-quarter length sleeves, some with rounded collars.
The range of dresses features tiers, gathers, and a few ruffles, but also a classic A-line in some fabrics.
Obscured vision was a feature of the show – fringes were cut long to hang over the eyes, and bucket hats were worn. Similar hats were also seen on the Marimekko catwalk this week.
The designer once again put models in her favoured brand of shoes, Beau Coops – a variety of coloured brogues, and chunky platform heels with pointed toes.
Show attendees received Karen Walker-branded sunglasses and bracelets in their goodie bags.
