The Prime Minister wants a “please explain” from the Human Rights Commission over a document made public on 3 News last night.
It showed the director is contemplating taking a case against Social Development Minister Paula Bennett.
The document shows the director of human rights proceedings, Robert Hesketh, may be preparing to take a case against Ms Bennett to the Human Rights Review Tribunal.

John Key was busy campaigning in Palmerston North today.
“I have concerns that the Human Rights Commissioner has managed to give a report to, that’s ended up in the hands of the media," he says. "I would have thought that’s a breach of human rights.”
Ms Bennett is accused of breaching solo mother Natasha Fuller's privacy by going public with her benefit details after Ms Fuller protested against the scrapping of the benefit training allowance.
Ms Fuller accused the minister of intimidation and is seeking $15,000 in compensation.
Now, Mr Key says it is Ms Bennett who is the injured party and he may take it up with the Commission.
“It’s a bit odd when something’s before the Human Rights Commission and yet the human rights of one of the parties seems to have been breached.”
So we asked whether it was appropriate for him to interfere with a publicly funded judicial body?
“No, but having said that there's no reason why we can't ask how it got into the public domain.”
But that is a question the Human Rights Commission cannot answer because 3 News obtained the draft report elsewhere.
