The government is attempting to boost confidence in the financial system by offering insurance on personal bank deposits.

As the international monetary fund warns the world’s financial systems are near meltdown. Governments around the world are scrambling to re-assure a nervous public.
Labour has just released plans to deal with the impending trouble by placing a guarantee on bank deposits.
 
The party is also poised to release details about their student policy.
 
Clark says she has no plans to re-instate Winston Peters before the election, citing the frantic times as the reason.
