A bottle of Prime Minister John Key's exclusive JK's pinot noir raised $52,000 at an auction for Christchurch, it's been revealed.
Mr Key registered the label after he became prime minister in 2008 and he's handed out bottles each year since then.
"As a joke I registered JK as the PM's Pinot - we make 25 cases a year and I give them to people who help me out, and that's a lot of people," he said on TV One on Monday.
"There are four or five cases left and they're auctioned for charity."
Mr Key says he was at a charity function for Christchurch after the earthquakes and one bottle went for $26,000.
"Then someone said they would double that because it was for Christchurch and a bottle went for $52,000 - then one of the people who bought one wandered into the car park and dropped it," he said.
