Further test results have confirmed the spread of the kiwifruit vine disease PSA-V to an orchard in the Coromandel.

The positive test result on Gold9 kiwifruit vines at an orchard in Whenuakite was announced by Kiwifruit Vine Health today.

Provisional test results had been released yesterday and samples were sent to a second laboratory for confirmation.

A controlled area within a 10km radius of the infected orchard has been set up.

Growers in the controlled area are being asked to monitor their orchards extensively, implement and maintain a spraying programme, maintain strict hygiene procedures and not move any kiwifruit plant material out of the area.

The disease has caused millions of dollars damage since it was first discovered at a Te Puke orchard in October 2010.
