An anti-violence campaign is being launched today in the community of Paeroa, which is looking to shake-off a violent image.
Local pizza man Jourdan Voudouris was gunned down in the centre of the township in June and police are yet to find his killer.
The Family Violence Intervention Network's Rachael Harrison says 26 well known locals will be fronting the campaign which will focus on reducing family violence fuelled by alcohol.
“Paeroa’s like many of the small towns around New Zealand who are proactively stepping up to protect children,” she says. “They have worked really hard to spread the message that it’s not okay, but it is okay to ask for help.”
Ms Harrison says there were more than 100 cases of family violence in the community last year.
