Palmerston North's mayor says he would look at the same gang-patch bylaw Wanganui has, if disgruntled gang members migrated to his town.

Wanganui's gang-members have been forced into leaving their patches at home if they want to venture into public places, a law that came into affect two months ago.

Mayor of Palmerston North Jono Naylor says he has heard rumours of gang members looking at his town as a possible new place to escape the ban.

But he says his council would look at the same by-law too, if it meant keeping them out.

Mr Naylor says Palmerston North does not have a problem with gangs, and he wants to keep it that way.
