A woman who suffered a panic attack while diving with sharks at Kelly Tarlton's in Auckland has been taken to hospital.

3 News understands the novice diver panicked while underwater and took off her diving mask.

Staff at Kelly Tarlton's say the woman was never in any danger.

St John Ambulance were called to the scene and took the girl to hospital.

A spokesperson for St John says she is in a moderate condition.
