Parents fighting to save Kawerau Intermediate from closure are heading to the High Court in Rotorua today.

A judicial review is to be held with the school board challenging the closure, which would also see Kawerau College close and a new school established.

Kawerau Intermediate Principal Daryl Aim says the process has not been carried out correctly.

“Any thing that the community or schools suggested as alternative pathways were simply not looked at. There was a determination from the beginning that this is where we are going and they just drove the process that way.”

Mr Aim says a survey found that 99.4-percent of parents are opposed to the merger.

The Ministry of Education is proposing to close Kawerau Intermediate at the end of the year.

Go into turbo drive Mr Aim. Make it clear that you are right and the Ministry of Education is wrong. Unless you are in white hot molten steel mode your desires will falter. Please keep your name up front. ie Daryl Aim ..... kept Kawarau Intermediate open as the most significant intermediate school in New Zealand. Just make it clear that the only kind of reason that you will listen to is that your school will stay open and thrive as a model for the rest of New Zealand to follow.
