The parents of two kiwi sisters killed in Samoa's tsunami have spoken publicly for the first time about their loss.
At a media conference today they said their daughters had good things ahead of them before the tsunami cut their lives short.
It has been a day of emotional remembrance services across Samoa today - honouring those lost in the tsunami.
In the capital, Apia, the Samoan head of state, prime minister and cabinet attended a multi-faith service along the waterfront - where hymns were sung to remember the dead.
Also in attendance were the parents of Rebecca and Petria Martin - two of seven New Zealanders who died when the wave swept along Samoa's southern coastline last week.
Earlier, their parents Kerry and Lynne spoke of the trip to see where their daughters died - seeing only an ocean of grief.
Kerry and Lynne Martin will fly their daughters home to Matamata tomorrow night - where they will be farewelled in a joint funeral service on Saturday.
