Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia is less than impressed with John Key

The Government has signalled that it may ignore any recommendations made by the Waitangi Tribunal regarding water rights that may halt asset sales.

And while the Maori Party co-leader Pita Sharples says it is not a deal breaker for their confidence and supply agreement, Tariana Turia is refusing to rule that out.

Prime Minister John Key isn’t budging on his views about the tribunal.

Political reporter Patrick Gower sat down with an editor and put together a montage from the last three days of the Waitangi Tribunal.

Brad: you make some very interesting points, especially regarding the symbolism and parallels of ideals with the French revolutionary rationale. I'm curious what others think about this comparison?

The Iconography of Tariana Turia: The French beret and 'the flag' of nationhood. The French revolution set the ideals of 'liberty, equality, and FRATERNITY'. Fraternity a.k.a. nationalism, hence the tino rangatiratanga flag on the beret. Do we acknowledge Turia's intellectual dues in our analysis? In that the rationale of her argument is a derivative of high spec European thought? Which is not what we expected. Also, i believe (not sure) that the flag arises out of the 'Declaration of the Independence of New Zealand' (1835), interestingly this creates a nation prior to Waitangi...so why Treaty of Waitangi?
