A major privacy issue discovered at Work and Income New Zealand this week is continuing to dog the Government, and now the Green Party is on the attack.

Party co-leader Meteria Turei says the Government department had ample opportunity to fix the issue before it was made public but did not.

“WINZ was told three times that there was problems with those kiosks and didn’t investigate any of those claims properly and in fact potentially defamed one of the agencies that they got in to look at those issues,” she told Firstline this morning.

Ms Turei says the Government has made significant cutbacks in the IT support for departments, which may have contributed to privacy issues – but says ministers are responsible too.

“Paula Bennett is a leaker. She leaks personal information about private citizens because they question her authority,” Ms Turei says, “If she is setting a culture that says leaking is a legitimate activity and disrespectful privacy is a legitimate activity then the whole organisation will have that same culture and I think that’s part of the problem.”

She is so out of touch with how things really are it is laughable. just because she was on a benefit does not mean she has an idea of life and reality across the board. She is a muppet and a critter. And if any, and I mean any part of my details and our situation ever gets "leaked" or as she has done in the past, deliberately given out to the media, I will own her in 2 seconds. What she did was so far over the line that she would have needed a compass to cross back. She would want to be very careful with peoples information. If she is using these tactics, then that is blackmail and bullying/intimidation... is that what we as NZers put up with? Why have people stopped protesting and MAKING our Govt/pollies change their ways. WE elect them, WE CAN do something about it.

Makes for great national figures though in drops on bene numbers. All partys should be pushing for a vote of no confidence in the govt. Not just one lone politician. Why are the opposition not able to show the public that they are able to work together on these issues. We all know they feel the same way. Even Peter Dunne would have to admit this is one of the biggest cockups in record.

Meteria is right. This govt has stigmatised anyone who is on a benefit or ACC or facing problems. They tell others to "take responsibility" but they never do. Paula Bennett is a leaker and nasty with it, John Key is asleep at the wheel and changes his story every time he is asked a question, John Banks suffers from dementia, Parata is on her second major mess-up, not to mention the whole asset sale fiasco. Can't get much worse.
