Minister of Social Development Paula Bennett

Did the Minister of Social Development hold a private meeting with a woman who had complained about her to the Privacy Commissioner?

Was this meeting an attempt to persuade the woman to drop that complaint?

And if the answer to those questions is "yes", is that appropriate behaviour for a senior cabinet minister?

Paula Bennett talks exclusively to Campbell Live to answer those questions.

30/04/2010 - After ^;)) PM NEWS. I am very disappointed with TV# and this story. TV3 reported half the story specially did not mention it was made by the privacy commissioner. Which is part of there process. Though you did not say it by leaving that part of it you made sound like the Minister went behind the back of the commissioner to talk with the lady in question. SHAME ON YOU. It is undoubtedly true that the position of media or journalism is not that of a mission but of a commercial industry. The truth of the matter, however, is that our present journalism is used to presenting only half side of the picture. This is the root cause of all our problems. In view of the present circumstances media activism would amount to present a balanced reporting of the situation abandoning the present policy of selective reporting. The principle of modern journalism can be understood from this saying:"When a dog bites a man it is no news, but when a man bites a dog, it is news". I am sick and tired of watching the NEWS and current affairs today. Journalists forget that they have a social responsibility to report the whole truth and nothing but the truth. They have the power to make a government or brake it. Do you think for me to think that we will see some form of apology for this apology is just a pipe dream. I had lots of respect for John's reporting and challenging attitude. Now he has lost it.

@Sam
I have reviewed the herald website and nowhere that i could find does it quote Ms Fuller as denying a meeting took place or that money was offered.
Maybe you could post a link to that story as i am quite interested in this.
Thank you

And yet the herald print version has a quote from Natasha Fuller herself saying that this didn't happen. TV3, if you indeed have such 'emails' I suggest you publish them in their entirety!

Is she so worried about her personal reputation or should she be looking into a case where a 39 year old mother who had a child removed 13 years ago and another 2 9years ago, on invalid's benefit for alcohol, drug and sex addiction and because of a breakdown in the placement of her 10year old, CYFS are now considering putting child back into her care. This smacks of desperation on CYFS part and a disaster for the child. What has this country come to when a child's future is put in the hands of this mother? What is SW Development Minister doing about her Social Workers who won't listen when warning bells are rung and do whatever is right for them and not the children in their care? Get a life Paula and do the job you are paid to do.

What a non story from a desperate John. Tonight, did the chicken actually cross the raod, we revea leaked emails to suggest it was at leats considering it, but the chicken, like Brian Tamaki, refuses to talk to us.
Get some real stories John instead of hyping non events.!

so the story has changed from tv3 saw documents showing that she was trying to make a settlement, to tv3 received an email. time you lay off your journalists and go hire some that actually know how to do the job instead of creating stories that don't exist, protecting war medal thieves from the police for ratings of a story.

Has the Key govt been taking lessons from Fiji? Strong arming people to quell dissent. Bennett is a corrupt bully who should be sacked. Bet John Key is "relaxed" about it.

Paula Bennet should spend some time watching "Lie to Me" so that she can pick up some basic tips on how to lie to the interviewer and be convincing. Hint to Paula Bennet - When denying something - DON'T nod your head in the affirmative while verbally "denying" that you have spoken to someone. It shows you are lying.
