Pearl Jam have scored their first US number one album in 13 years by ending Jay-Z's run at the top of the charts.

The band's ninth studio album, Backspacer, has debuted at number one on the Billboard chart with first week sales of 189,000.

Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3 slips to two with impressive third week sales of 134,000.

Three Days Grace's Life Starts Now debuts at three and Whitney Houston and Miley Cyrus round out the new top five with I Look To You and The Time Of Our Lives, respectively.

Also new to the top 10 are Brand New's Daisy at six, heavy metal act Five Finger Death Punch's War Is The Answer at seven and Harry Connick, Jr.'s Your Songs at eight.
