Super city Mayor-elect Len Brown has announced that Penny Hulse will be the Deputy Mayor of the new Auckland Council.

Ms Hulse has served on the Waitakere City council in various roles for more than 15 years, most recently as deputy.

“She has been an outstanding conjugate across the [Waitakere] council with its many and varied political hue and experience in bringing that council together, and that has been a key reason why I have chosen her as my Deputy Mayor,” said Mr Brown at a press conference today.

Mr Brown says Ms Hulse will work closely with the Mayor’s Office on a range of policy initiatives like transport, social engagement and the environment.

“I have chosen someone who offers a strong leadership for Auckland who is respected across the political spectrum and can help to unite our communities.”

Ms Hulse says she wants to humanise the super city and looks forward to bringing the region together.

“It is a huge honour to be offered this role…and I don’t for a moment underestimate the enormity of the task,” says Ms Hulse.

“Our job is now to bring together a council that can understand how to reach to the community and to make the super city work.”

Ms Hulse says a shared vision and ethos will make the partnership a successful one.

Actually, I want to put reality into practice by dividing the country into two, Auckland and the rest of NZ. Len Brown can be the President of Auckland nation, and Mr. Key for the rest of NZ. The Auckland people will prove they don't need handouts and free lunches, nor consumer society to multi -corporations.

Mr. Key can continue with his check book policy...
