The alleged burglar stole a box of jewellery before fleeing the store

An elderly man is nursing facial injuries following a jewellery store robbery in Wellington.

Police say the 85-year-old man, who was the sole worker at Regent Jewellers on Main Rd in the northern suburb of Tawa was injured when he chased a burglar from the store about 4pm yesterday.

He needed hospital treatment.

The alleged burglar stole a box of jewellery before fleeing the store.

Police want to speak with anyone who saw two men inside an older style, dark coloured hatchback in the area at the time of the burglary.
