Persistent Gisborne police finally caught up with the occupants of a stolen station wagon tonight, after two chases involving up to 10 patrol cars and a helicopter.

The wagon was first spotted being driven north of Gisborne about 10am. Police set off in pursuit but lost the vehicle.

It was later spotted in the Tokomaru Bay area but again managed to elude officers.

Eventually, police used a helicopter to track down the vehicle, and arrested the driver and an accomplice.
