A documentary produced by Sir Peter Jackson on the West Memphis Three is set to premiere out of competition at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
West of Memphis, which was only announced yesterday, is co-produced by Damien Echols, one of the three defendants in a murder case the film is based on. He was released earlier this year after the convictions were overturned.
It has also been reported that the production West of Memphis came into conflict with the production of Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory, the third documentary from filmmakers Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky on the West Memphis Three case.
The Sundance premiere for West of Memphis was announced today along with most of the festival’s programme - read here for more on the other films announced.
Overseen by Robert Redford's Sundance Institute, the festival runs January 19 - 29 in Park City, Utah.
