BP and Shell both cut the price of petrol at the pumps this morning.

The cost of 91 and 95 is down by 4c a litre, with diesel falling 3c.

Unleaded is now at around 199.9c a litre. Unleaded 95 is still above $2, at 207.9c.

It's the first time it's dropped below the $2 barrier since January.

"The dollar made some gains overnight and the continued fall of refined fuel prices have allowed us to pass on the savings," says BP's Mike McGuinness.

Challenge Northtown (Timaru) is now selling it even cheaper than that since the price drop. It was great to see more than 10 litres go into the tank for my twenty bucks, been a while since that happened!
