Most of the major oil companies have announced a drop in petrol prices today, on the back of falling crude oil costs.
Shell, BP and Caltex have all dropped their petrol price by 4c a litre and diesel by 6c a litre.
Ultra 91 is now $1.95.9 a litre, high octane $2.00.9, and diesel $1.53.9.
Mobil has said it is still assessing the market and has not announced a fuel price reduction.
Shell communications manager Jackie Maitland said that while crude oil prices had been steadily falling, the decrease was now flowing through to the cost of refined product.
"The fluctuating New Zealand dollar has not been helpful, and it has prevented Shell being able to pass on any savings to Kiwi motorists sooner, as we purchase both crude and refined product in US dollars."
The last petrol price cut was on August 14 when it dropped by 3c a litre, taking it below $2 per litre for the first time since May.
