Torrential rain in Auckland on Tuesday afternoon caused flooding in a number of areas of the city, including at the Auckland Zoo.

Photos showing the effects of the storm were posted online through the zoo’s official Facebook page, prompting comments from members of the public who were worried about the welfare of the zoo’s animals.

However Auckland Zoo confirmed that all was well, despite the dramatic images.

“We're fine :),” the zoo posted.

“The water went down quite quickly - and it's beautiful blue skies and sun here now - crazy weather!”
