Mr Darroch is a hero to stand up for pigs, who despite being able to suffer emotionally and physically from appalling confinement in sow and farrowing crates, don't have a voice. Why does the pork industry continue with systems of confinement that are illegal according to NZ's Animal Welfare Act? Oh yeah, they care about money above all else and will only change when consumers stop buying factory farmed meat or if they are forced to by the Minister of Agriculture making sure the pig welfare code outlaws these intensive systems. If you care about preventing suffering, you have a few days left to make a submission on the draft welfare code for pigs to improve the treatment of these intelligent, sentient animals. All you have to do is go to www.lovepigs.org.nz and make an email submission. It only takes a couple of minutes to have your say!
