Police are still looking for several people after an arson attack on a house in a Hamilton suburb left an elderly man in hospital with burns and suffering from smoke inhalation.
The 79-year-old was found at the foot of a bed in the Hillcrest house after arsonists used an accelerant to start eight fires around the house.
The victim's injuries were not life-threatening but police said he would be in hospital for several days.
Detective Sergeant Neville Ross from the Hamilton CIB told NZPA today they still needed to contact some people but did not need help from the public.
He would not talk about why police thought the man's house had been torched or if anyone held a grudge against him.
"Those are things I am still working on, so I am not going down that line at all."
Firefighters arrived to find the house well ablaze about 5.30am yesterday but rescued the elderly man and took him outside where ambulance officers were waiting.
The man had burns to 15 percent of his body.
The house was badly damaged.
