Police are desperate to solve the murder of Wellington death-metaller Matthew Hall, who was stabbed to death in his home two months ago.

A team of 30 detectives is working on the case, and police are now seeking anyone with information about two particular people to come forward.

Of interest to police is the movements of fellow death metaller, Tim Parlane and a mystery woman who stayed at his house.

Mr Parlane was struck by a train near Kaiwharawhara Station just weeks after Mr Hall's death, and police say they are trying to determine whether he needs to be included in their inquiries.

However police have been quick to quash speculation about ill-will between Mr Hall and Parlane's respective bands.

"We've received information that they were associates and they knew each other," says Senior Sergeant Dave Thorton. "But we've received no information along those lines that there was any rivalry between bands."

Police say Mr Hall was killed with a large knife and say finding it is key to their investigation.

They have also released photos of Mr Parlane's car, as well as a bag and cell phone which they say are similar to those he used on February 15.

The families of both Mr Hall and Mr Parlane did not want to appear on camera, but Mr Parlane's brother Matt told 3 News he was an amazing person who 'wouldn't hurt a fly', while other friends say both men were a massive loss to the death metal community.
