Police have seized more than 800 cannabis plants - potentially worth millions - found growing in a Dannevirke garage.

The sophisticated growing room has been uncovered, with nearly 700 seedlings and 164 mature plants during a search of an Otope Road property.

The plants, if grown to full maturity and harvested, would have an estimated street value of up to $2.5 million.

A 28-year-old man is due to appear at Palmerston North District Court today.

What a waste of time and resources for all involved. Destroying lives and livelihoods shouldn't be a mainstay task for police. Problem is it's too profitable for them in terms of money and glory. TV shows, movies and media that glorify narcotics cops have a lot to answer for.
