Police hope to name the woman whose body was found in a Wellington park yesterday.

A post mortem is being carried out today to reveal details about her death.

The body – believed to be a woman in her forties – was discovered by three joggers running through Alexandra Park in the suburb of Mt Victoria.

Police are yet to release any details and cannot say whether the death is suspicious.

The park, which is part of the Wellington Town Belt above Wellington East Girls’ College, is still cordoned off today.

Detective Inspector Paul Basham says around 20 police personnel are helping with the investigation.

He says the body was found in rugged terrain but couldn’t comment on clothing she was wearing or what state the body was in.
