The death of a young woman at Waikato Hospital after giving birth is being investigated.
It is understood the 20-year-old first time mother gave birth to a boy at Huntly Birthcare before being taken to Waikato Hospital where she died on Monday night.
The baby boy is believed to be in a critical condition.
A Waikato District Health Board spokeswoman said: "Our condolences go to the family.
"The police are involved, the death has been referred to the coroner and Waikato District Health Board's processes in these situations are well under way."
