Police have warned that violence against officers will not be tolerated after an incident in the Waikato town of Glen Afton.

Two Huntly police officers were attacked in the early hours of this morning, after responding to a 111 call about a serious domestic dispute. They are recovering from injuries sustained at a Glen Afton address around 1.30am.

Western Waikato Area Commander Inspector Paul Carpenter says the two officers were “set upon” by the house’s occupants after they arrived.

The female officer received a blow to the head and had clumps of her hair pulled out by a female attacker.

The incident, while police say appears to have been alcohol-related, was resolved after two attackers were pepper sprayed and one was painted with a taser,

Mr Carpenter says the assault is “very concerning”.

“Our staff attend these types of jobs after receiving a call for help from either a victim or relatives, and for them to be attacked when they arrive is simply not acceptable,” he says.

Two people, male and female siblings, were arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station.

They will appear today in the Hamilton District Court charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest, obstruction and threatening to kill.

Obviously Glen Afton has some sorting out to do. Female savagery must be stopped now and forever. Our police officers are to be respected and not savagely attacked.Alcohol/drugs offer no excuse. They are only an unforgivable cover up.

Christmas and New Year 111 calls should have more then two officers on call and have backup surrounding the scene, police are too casual that needs a firm ground to try and avoid injuries..Tomuch paperworks and questioning at the scene, actions is what the police needs to avoid injuries or an ambushed..
