A 62-year-woman who was bound and beaten during a robbery at an Auckland RSA has been released from hospital.
The manager of the Hobsonville RSA was attacked yesterday by a masked man who made off with cash taken from a gathering the night before.
She suffered facial injuries and was treated at Waitakere Hospital.
“The
offender when he came into the RSA did not speak to the manager at all – he
just immediately launched into beating her, beating her about the face,” says
Detective Senior Sergeant Andy King.
“She’s
a 62 year old, so it was what you would term a cowardly act,” he says.
The
RSA manager was pulled into another room where she managed to break free, but
was then tied up again.
The
Halloween masked man made off with cash taken from a gathering
the night before.
“It’s
very upsetting, but we have the strength to recover, and we’ll be with them to
help them, so that’s the main thing,” says Trevor Dickey, an RSA welfare
officer.
The attack came 10 years to the day since the triple murders at the Mt Wellington RSA.
Police say they believe the timing was purely coincidental.
