Police are concerned about the brazenness and apparent planning around the offence

A 19-year-old woman was tied up in her home while family members slept upstairs, by a man who entered the Victoria Avenue, Remuera property with his own "tools of trade".

The woman was robbed of personal items including a laptop and jewellery at about 4.30am yesterday, before the offender left the property on a blue mountain bike he stole from the property.

The victim described the offender as aged between 30 and 50, at least two metres tall and of slim, athletic build.

He wore green or brown cargo pants, a black hooded sweatshirt and a purple patterned bandanna over his face.

Police are concerned about the brazenness and apparent planning around the offence and would like to hear from anyone who saw a tall cyclist in the area around Victoria Avenue and Waimea Lane between about 4am and 5am.

Police also encourage anyone to contact them who has experienced any prowler-type incidents in the area recently that have not been reported.

Whatever happened to the terms intruder, attacker, thief. A home invader? There was only one person - Invasion? Thought at least it would have to be more than one.....
