Wanaka police and search and rescue teams are scouring difficult terrain in the Mount Aspiring National Park for a missing hunter.
The search for the 23-year-old man from Central Otago was launched on Sunday, after he was reported overdue from a solo chamois hunting trip.
Police say a helicopter is being used to search the upper Rob Roy Valley area and the southern face of Homestead Peak.
Wanaka police SAR coordinator Senior Constable Mike Johnston says he was informed of the situation about 10pm on Sunday and the search team was deployed once a helicopter arrived from Te Anau.
The man left on his hunting trip on Friday and was expected to return late on Sunday afternoon.
The family of the missing man is being kept informed of the search progress.
