Porirua police investigating a fatal crash on the Paekakariki Hill are appealing for witnesses.

Around 3:25pm yesterday, a motorcyclist struck the rear of a vehicle turning into a driveway, killing the rider. The driver and children in the car were unharmed.

"On the south side approximately 1 kilometre from the summit, a car travelling northbound was turning into a driveway when it was struck in the rear side by the motorcycle. Sadly, the motorcyclist was thrown from the bike and died at the scene,” says Detective Sergeant Shane Rongonui.

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have been travelling over the hill at the time of the crash and may have seen a yellow and black Suzuki GSX 1000 motorcycle travelling south and/or a Silver four door Ford Mondeo travelling north.”
