Portland police are under fire for shooting a 12-year old girl in the leg.
However, the officers involved say the girl is a suspected gang member who attacked them at a train station.
The officer who shot the girl, Chris Humphreys, has been placed on paid leave while an inquiry is made into his firing of a beanbag shotgun point-blank at the girl.
The incident was caught on TriMet videotape. It shows Humphreys walking around the girl after his colleague had pinned her to the ground. She continued to struggle despite warnings from the officers that she would be shot if she did not cease resisting. One shot was fired and it struck her in the thigh.
