We hear of these girls being taken into custody. When are we going to see a New Zealand Child abuser male arrested for picking them up. Its much easier to pick on the girls than to face up to the men who abuse them.

The national party created this problem by increasing poverty in their last term in office. They are privatising prisons for their rich mates and creating the conditions for more crime.

1000's of kiwi kids living on the bare bones with no treats and added family violence. The stats tell us poverty increases family violence so the nats increase poverty.Don't tell me the national party corporate bastard banker lackies give a damn about these kids.

If women were picking up young 12 year old male prostitutes the police would be arresting those women and there faces would be all over the media.

looks to me like the police turning a bling eye to male child abusers.

This doesn't suprise me one bit , it's the sign of things to come , with a population of only 4.5 million this country should be ashamed of the amount of problems it's facing but never seems to do anything about , it's time to wake up , 12 year olds on the street selling themselve sickens me but as they say , she'll be right mate , bollocks .

Early Intervention programmes which the National government is cutting back might have kept these girls in supported families with better attitudes to themselves. prostitution la reform wherever it occurs asssits in making prostitution of minors easier. You have to ask yourself, when a politician such as Shane Jones says he watches porn, what hope have we to protect our children? the other concern is Annette King saying what happens in the bedroom is private? No it isn't if it involves as statistically it does in NZ DV and sexual assault, exploitation of one in three women - refer POlice statistics. juliana

Ivan, my comment is to question the effectiveness of banning. To ban prostitution is to ignore it and effectively send them all out on to the streets, the most unsafe place to be. You would find most injuries, assaults, deaths and infections of STI’s happen to sex workers without a safe place to work.

It's a shame that the govenrment can't arrange basic needs for the citizens .Whether NZ or anyother country,a community service needs to be build by the govt.Same situation here in India, maybe more worse. I gave a simple suggestion to the govt: Give 1 acre of agricultural land , It will feed atleast 2500 people. One common house as a shelter, one small house to give privacy to couple turn by turn, one car to give them joyride once in a month, one TV, one small room for education . Clothing is no worry, food will be grownby themesleves, what else a poor man require. Let him live their life with a right as a humanbeing. Just becuase there are rules and regulations and Acts, capitalism and industrialisation for the rich they are suffering. What a pity that a beautiful fairy of just 12-13 years have to sell her flesh to keep things moving and after few months they get habituated unnaturally and then the law says that they are pros by profession. Why same cannot be stopped from happening. Strict law won't help to bring a change that is required. Such issues need to be eradicated from the roots as the reckless male factor is always happy to brutally enjoy young flesh.
