Police are expected to announce this afternoon whether or not a woman who abandoned a baby in an aircraft toilet after giving birth on an Auckland-bound flight from Samoa will be prosecuted.

Detective Inspector Mark Gutry has called a press conference at Manukau police station at 1.45pm.

The woman was on her way to New Zealand to work as kiwifruit picker when she gave birth to the baby girl on the Pacific Blue flight last week.

A cleaner found the baby in a toilet rubbish bin after the woman left the plane.

She was later detained at the airport and mother and baby taken to Auckland's Middlemore Hospital.

The only person who should be held responsable for this is the woman who left the baby on the plane. No one else.If a woman does not declare she is pregnant what can you do. Force an examination on her
