Police have identified the woman whose body was found at a Wellington Park but are not naming her until all next of kin have been advised.
They are also treating her death as ‘unexplained’ and say they are keeping an open mind for the possible scenarios in which she died.
The 38-year-old’s body was discovered by three joggers running through Alexandra Park in the suburb of Mt Victoria yesterday morning.
Detective Inspector Paul Basham says the woman’s immediate family have been notified but have asked for more time so they can inform the wider family.
“Understandably, they are still struggling to come to grips with what has happened, and our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time,” says Mr Basham.
A post-mortem examination had begun earlier today and but police say it is still ongoing.
“Until such time as the post-mortem has been completed, police aren’t able to comment on the possible cause of death. At this early stage we are still treating the death as ‘unexplained’ and are keeping an open mind to a number of possible scenarios,” he says.
“In the meantime, we are continuing to follow various lines of inquiry as part of our investigation. This includes continuation of the scene examination at Mt Victoria and interviews with a number of people who have come forward with information.”
The 25-year-old man who was arrested in the area yesterday for obstruction has been released.
