Police worried about Porirua gang violence

Police worried about Porirua gang violence

Porirua police say they're concerned about the possibility of escalating gang violence after two gang members were found stabbed overnight.

Police were called to an address about 2am on Friday in Niagara St, Waitangirua, north of downtown Porirua, and found gang members aged 42 and 20 with multiple stab wounds.

Police earlier said the injuries were thought to have been incurred during a fight in a car-park on the corner of Louisa Grove and Waihemo St, not far from Niagara St.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam says the men were taken to Wellington Hospital but their wounds weren't thought to be life-threatening.

"We have seen gang violence in this area before," Det Sen Sgt Oxnam said.

"I would be very concerned that things do not escalate."
