Everybody likes a public holiday, and it happens to fall on a weekend, politicians say it should be "don't come Monday" for everyone.
“I think Mondayisation is a terrific idea,” says Labour leader David Shearer.
And Winston Peters thinks so too.
“The least they could do is give them that Monday off on those special days,” says Mr Peters.
Green Party leader Russel Norman says missing out on a public holidy means less family time.
“If we don't have a public holiday, then not only do we have less family time, but you don't give respect to the days themselves,” he says.
"Monday-ising" Waitangi and Anzac Day is about to be put to the vote, and will likely win.
The Opposition parties and United Future are all for it - they have 58 seats.
The Maori Party is in the likely camp too and that is all that is needed for a majority.
National is wavering, while ACT is the only party against the move.
Pita Sharples says as long as Waitangi is celebrated, "sweet as".
The holiday clash only happens every few years, but the downside is every extra day off would cost employers, and the economy, an estimated $200 million a day.
Not good news for the National party who could end up both on the losing side, and on the wrong side of public opinion, if it does not support the change.
