A recent political poll has shown that New Zealander's love affair with John Key is waning (AAP)

The first 3 News Reid Research political poll of the year shows voters' love affair with the Prime Minister is waning - and there is a good debut in the polls for new Labour leader David Shearer.

National is still miles ahead of Labour - but voters are beginning to question John Key and some of his more unpopular policies - like asset sales and the sale of farms to foreigners.

John Key's time is numbered. He has stuffed up government reform which will take years to fix, and his arrogance on asset sales is incredible. Listen to the people John, not those writing you cheques!

The Clark Labour Government held office for 9 years and we can expect the same length of time for the Key Government. The loss of support for National as shown by the polls is predictable and fits the normal pattern of an electoral cycle. National will lose seats in 2014 and will struggle to holdf the treasury benches in 2017. It happened to Labour and it will happend to National. It would be unusal for a party to stay in power for anything beyond 9 years, and right now we are only half way.

Feijoa, only those who can afford to pay for a land line get polled, what about poor people like me who can't afford one, we prey we have enough petrol money to get to the booth on election day.

@eddie. Labour buys strategic assets and invests in people who need it i.e. students and low income families..

National sells off strategic assets, borrows money to give the rich tax cuts and ensures that everyone who is already struggling, struggle a bit more.
