Portishead formed in 1991 in Bristol.
Their debut album Dummy went on to many Greatest Albums Of All Time lists.
Now, 20 years later, they have found themselves in New Zealand. It’s been 13 years since they played here live.
Portishead is the name of a town about 10km away from where the trio grew up. They figured it would be as good a name as any.
The group aren’t exactly upbeat – but they are quite magical.
Over the last 20 years they have put out three albums – their fans have learned to be patient.
“We’re not wilfully slow. It’s just how it is. Unless we’ve got something to say, basically,” says Adrian Utley.
“If there’s nothing to say, we won’t do it,” says Geoff Barrow.
Portishead’s third album was called Third. As for number four – it’ll be done when it’s done.
“We’re lucky because we have that sort of fan base that has been with us forever,” says Barrow.
