Two men have suffered serious injuries after an electrical explosion occurred on powerlines in Auckland’s Mount Eden.
The incident occurred outside the Ministry of Education on Normanby Road.
It is understood the men were transporting a flagpole that was standing upright in their truck when it got caught on the powerlines.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and one of the men required CPR. Both had considerable burns to the skin and have now been taken to Auckland Hospital.
3 News understands the men are aged 41 and 50.
Road closures are in place on Normanby Road between Enfield Street and Edwin Street.
Just over 200 homes were without power from 1.45pm, with the majority restored just after 3pm.
Workers at the MoE building have been told to go home as there is no power.
The powerline is understood to be of 11,000 volts.
The matter is being referred to OSH for investigation.
