For the first time in a decade St John is raising their ambulance service patient part charges.

The increase will come into affect from January 1, the organisation's chief executive Jaimes Wood said.

The charges vary throughout the country and an additional amount of between $6.50 and $17 will see charges increase to between $61 and $74.

Previous charges ranged from between $45 and $67.50.

"We are increasing our part charges as we are constantly facing funding challenges and escalating costs of operating our ambulance service," Mr Wood said.

The part charge applies to ambulance attendance and/or transport for medical emergencies, as well as accident related injuries that were older than 24 hours.
