The Prime Minister's body guard met his match when he tried a bout of arm wrestling today.
The impromptu struggle occurred when John Key was visiting Canterbury University engineering students.
Mr Key was on a routine visit to the university when the students laid down a challenge.
The Prime Minister ordered his bodyguard to go on the offensive, but then found out who they were up against - the man simply known as “Mad Dog”.
It turns out Mad Dog is exceptionally strong. He’s a true Kiwi champion and Mr Key quickly crowned him "Sir Mad Dog".
Arm wrestling has always been one of the true measures of a man and Mad Dog's technique impressed one of New Zealand's few arm wrestling experts.
“He's got a big forearm, so Mad Dog's obviously got a lot of power - a lot of natural power,” says Caleb O’Brien of the Sons of Samson Arm Wrestling Club.
So 3 News went to meet Mad Dog, real name Eddie Van Oosten, and asked him what the secret to his power was.
“Eating plenty of spinach. My old man's a spinach farmer,” he says.
Mad Dog’s dad didn't want to appear on camera, but proudly said his son was a "a strong bugger".
