British royal officials say Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge have named their black cocker spaniel puppy Lupo.

The palace says William and the former Kate Middleton both like the name, derived from the Latin word for wolf.

The royals got the puppy several months ago and he is keeping the duchess company while William is on military assignment as a Royal Air Force search and rescue helicopter pilot in the Falkland Islands.

Press officers had initially refused to provide the dog's name, citing the royal couple's privacy, but the information emerged while the duchess met children in Oxford, southern England.

She visited schools that use art therapy to help children with behavioural problems. Watch the video for the full report.

I am wondering whether thee lil wolf dog will bite as many little children and hapless staff members as William's Nana and Auntie's corgies do?? I am also wondering why with all their money and contacts do the Royals not get real dogs??
